Powerplay Sports & Entertainment @ NHL Draft 2019
VANCOUVER, CANADA – 21st-22nd June, 2019
Powerplay Sports & Entertainment CEO Keith Fong attended the 2019 NHL Draft that was held in Vancouver this summer. As an alumni of the Business of Hockey Institute (BHI), Fong was able to meet several NHL executives including Tampa Bay Lightening GM Julien Brisbois, Mark Chipman of the Winnipeg Jets, former Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Johnston and NHL alumni John Michael Liles.

The NHL draft is split into two draft days; Friday night is reserved for the first round picks of each team making their way on stage to put on their new team jerseys, while Saturday consists of draft pick announcements for rounds 2-7 at the NHL teams draft tables. Players drafted in the 2nd to 7th round meet their respective teams on the draft floor.

‘It was a great experience to attend the NHL Draft. Thank you to BHI for making this possible. Look forward to the day when more players from Asia are drafted into the NHL.”

Overall, a great experience for Fong as he got to experience the draft and the associated draft day dealings up close and see how a professionally run draft day is conducted at the highest level.

Greater Bay Inline Hockey League, Second Stop
SHUNDE, CHINA – 28th-30th June, 2019
The second stop of the GBIHL took place at a sweltering Shunde roller hockey rink, where the second set of round robin games between Shunde, Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen took place.

The league continued with teams fighting to get points after the first stop that took place in Macau earlier in June. Some very closely fought games saw the hosts Shunde and Macau pick up two wins and a loss each to keep the standings tight at the top of the league. The highlight of this round of games came in Shunde pulling off a thrilling 7-6 win over the Macau team on home turf after Macau mounted a strong late comeback.

After two stops, and with two more destinations to go, Hong Kong and Macau sit atop the league with 8 points from 6 games, while Shunde sit in 3rd with 6 points and Shenzhen on 2. For full stats and standings, please visit www.GBIHL.com

Special thanks again to Wheel Hub Asia who are sponsoring a set of wheels to the MVP of each stop of the GBIHL. This weekends MVP award belongs to Josh Ho of the Shunde team.

The GBIHL will continue with its next stop in October in Hong Kong. Stay tuned for details.
